cloning an L1000 or L2000 to an rp5470?

I need to do a lot of machine moves and I'm using ignite make_net_recovery to do this. As far as I am aware, I can clone machines inside the same class using ignite but I am having trouble using an archive created on an L2000 on a new rp5470 - it just crashes on boot after building the archive with the error below ....

any ideas much appreciated ...

Re: cloning an L1000 or L2000 to an rp5470?

I've cloned rp5450(L2000) boxes to rp5470 or rp5670 boxes in the HP performance center. Besides an extra hardware compatability boot, it went well using an Ignite mtr make tape recovery tape.

This may not be related to the clone, but you should say how you did it and post any messages you saw during the process.

Its possible you made a mistake at a prompt or that something unrelated went wrong at a really inconvenient time.

Re: cloning an L1000 or L2000 to an rp5470?

I re-did the ignite make_net_recovery and build and got the same problem - the pertinent problem seems to be, on boot

panic: set_machine_parameters_64: Unidentified cpu type returned from PDC_MODEL

This is a bit of a nightmare - I have to do a lot of similar builds ... any ideas would be much appreciated ...

Re: cloning an L1000 or L2000 to an rp5470?

Hi

On the "source" machine you should install the Hardware Enablement patch bundle. Yours does not know about the new CPU model. You can use a relatively new one for this. Always just make sure to make an ignite tape before installing any patches.

Re: cloning an L1000 or L2000 to an rp5470?

I looked through the latest HWE patches for 11 and found

PHCO_23169

which looks like the one I need - any comments? This would be very nice since it's a no-reboot patch and I really can't get downtime to install reboot-patches on many production L2000s ...

Re: cloning an L1000 or L2000 to an rp5470?

Well since that patch does not require an automatic reboot ... it is worth a try. But there might be some other addon cards and or internal pieces of hardware with hassles.

But if you can get it to boot of the different hardware you can off course install the HWE patches on the new system.

It looks as if it might work ... hence it is worth a try.

Re: cloning an L1000 or L2000 to an rp5470?

Hmm - that patch didn't work - same problem. I looked through the HWE patches and I can't see what else in there would be relevant to this (that isn't already installed). I'm hoping that there isn't any reboot patch I need on the source box. Is it possible that the PDC firmware on the source box needs upgrading? I can't see how an ignite tape would pick that up anyway.

Phillip

The PDC on the source does not get tranfered with an ignite. That is hardware firmware. The oter thing you could look at is your ignite version. It could be a bit old.

Did the error change after that patch was installed though ?

I've upgraded Ignite to the latest version and the error is the same. Same error after installing that patch too. I am going to try adding the HWE patches as part of the ignite restore ...

That should definitely increase the chance of your success. If this problem happens on the first rebot though you might still run into hassles. Its worth a try though.
