how to migrate from k-class to rp5470

hi
we are trying to replace the k-400 server with rp5470 server.
For this we tried ignite backup restoration
the below are the error message.
----------------------------------------------
Booting...
Boot IO Dependent Code (IODC) revision 1

SOFT Booted.

ISL Revision A.00.43 Apr 12, 2000

ISL booting hpux (;0):INSTALL

Boot
: tape(0/0/1/0.3.0.0.0.0.0;0):WINSTALL
tape(0/0/1/0.3.0.0.0.0.0;0):WINSTALL: cannot open, or not executable
Exec failed: No such file or directory
----------------------------------------------

Later after checking in the ITRC and other sites we came to know that this issue is known due to architechture and number of bits different.

Have anybody tried this migration of servers?
What would be easiest ways to carry out this migration?

does rp5470 supports 32 bit also?

What is the version of OS that you are trying to restore?. RP5470 supports 11.x 64bit only.

No Worries. Install the OS freshly and transfer all configuration and application settings manually.

Before that wait for more suggestions from ITRC gurus (not me obviously ;-)

Try these two scripts in attached tar archive, you will need to customise to your needs but they do work rather well in restoring systems after cold install or ignite recovery.

Hope it helps

Re: how to migrate from k-class to rp5470

hi guys
here are some inputs from hp solution center

1.Create the system Image using
#make_sys_image -s local -d
This will create the system image with all device files and kernal drivers

2.Ignit the L-class server with the Image
Boot the system from tape
While Igniting the server select the rebuild kernal option available from the basic tab(Select the additional button)
The Basic tab allows selection of Configurations, Environments,
Root Disk...etc. The only thing that can be changed here on a make_recovery restore is the
Root Disk. If this was an install from the Ignite Server, we could select different Configurations,
Environments... etc.

3.Then goahead with the igniting process as usual.

4.While selecting IP address u select adiffernt IP address as a temporary IP. Once the K class is removed from network
you can use the IP of K class.

Re: how to migrate from k-class to rp5470

I'm not sure the make_sys_image will work either since you are talking 32bit vs. 64bit.

I would do the following:

1) Install HP-UX 11i on the rp5470
2) Install patches
3) Install required applications
4) Migrate users from the K400
5) Migrate data from the K400
6) Test
7) Test
8) Test some more
9) Verify that things like NFS, SAMBA, etc. are set up on the new box
10) Do some more testing
11) Get user sign off that the rp5470 applications are working as it should be.
12) Get Mgmt. sign off that the rp5470 applications are working as they should be
13) Migrate data from K400 again
14) Change IP address of rp5470 and K400if it is necessary for the rp5470 to have the same IP as the K400
15) Move rp5470 into production

Do NOT treat this as a trivial migration. Make sure everything is tested. Take the opportunity to get on the latest release of HP-UX (11i V1 / 11.11) and the latest General Release and Security patches and potentially the latest release of your application if applicable.

Good luck!!
