ignite from K-class to be restored in R-class server

Hi All,

I need to do a restoration on the R-class server using an ignite made from a K-class. Since both have different devices installed (number of disks, cards, adapters), will the restoration be successful? Do you have a step by step procedure on how to go about it?

Many Thanks,

AfterBurN

Just to add up, hpux version 10.20 is being used on both servers.

Hi AfterBurN,

In this case, an R & a K are reasonably close in system type so I think it should work.
Any devices not in the original load should be added by ioinit at the initial boot after the recovery.
At worst, you may have to add a driver or two post-recovery.
But remember to apply the latest QPK, HWE & DIAG bundles afterwards anyway.

Re: ignite from K-class to be restored in R-class server

You will have to look at the disk, tape and LAN devices to determine compatibility. For instance, if the R has a fibre disk for vg00 and the K uses just a built-in SCSI, then it probaly won't work because the K doesn't have the drivers installed. Same for tape and LAN. As far as step-by-step, the Ignite/UX web pages have a lot of details:

Hi AfterBurN

1. Hardware architecture of R Class and K Class is different, so there will be drivers issues

2. OS point of view there should not be any issue

Good Luck
