Re: ignite problem
Make sure you ignite patches are up to date too.
See if you cant to a tar -cvf /dev/rmt/0m /tmp/somefile
if that is your tape device, modify as needed.
Then do a tar -tvf /dev/rmt/0m
If this fails you probably have dirty drive, drive problem, or most likely bad tape.
just as a quick check that your tape and drive are working :).

Re: ignite problem
Does your system have this directory with these contents ?
myhost:/opt/ignite/boot>>ll Rel_B.11.11/
total 137520
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 17445704 Nov 4 2004 INSTALL
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 12582912 Apr 24 16:56 INSTALLFS
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 18884504 Nov 4 2004 VINSTALL
lrwxr-xr-x 1 bin bin 9 Apr 24 16:55 VINSTALLFS -> INSTALLFS
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 21471240 Nov 4 2004 WINSTALL
lrwxr-xr-x 1 bin bin 9 Apr 24 16:55 WINSTALLFS -> INSTALLFS
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 90 Nov 4 2004 auto_conf
I think it is corrupted or imcomplete installation. Was ignite used for the first time or it has been used earlier ?

Re: ignite problem
The files that were reported missing (which show in your message) were simply symbolic links to the 11.11 versions of the files!!! If the 11.11 components weren't there, then el bombo.
See
http://forums2.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=806073
Therefore, hopefully, Pete's fix is probably correct :>) I have not had an occasion to use/check any later version.

Re: ignite problem
The problem is that the 11.00 install has symbolic links to files included only in the 11.11 version.
Download the 11.11 version of ignite and but it in the same depot w/ the 11.00 version, then reinstall. should resolve the problem
