Iam trying to ignite a server from my ignite-ux server.can i use the ip address of the client with bootsys rather than the hostname , as my hostname is not setup in DNS.eg: bootsys -vw 10.10.10.32 .ok if it is not an option ,can i ignite the system from my client.Iam not sure if boosys -c server name, will work. ( dont ask me the reason for not using lan boot.its altogether a differnt thread :-)

Your client / target does have a hostname? There are lots of ways to resolve hostnames, DNS is one of them. /etc/hosts, DHCP, NIS are some more choices.

Your target will need a hostname. Ignite will want to know what it is during the install.

Have you tried the bootsys command already with the hostname, does it fail?

Have you tried "man bootsys" to see the options? According to the man page, using just an IP address is not supported. Perhaps the -c option would work.

IP is better than host name. It eliminates a failure point that as mentioned in the prior post can get you in many ways.

let me try with the IP option.
I tried with bootsys -c srvr name , it fails with NFS errors in server.

If you must use name, then at least fix /etc/hosts networking on both servers and make sure files is set in /etc/nsswitch.conf
