SD requires networking to be configured correctly and working. Networking is used even if the depot is local.

While no special casing is not a bad design principle, if a large percent of the user questions are related to networking, perhaps local installation should be handled without networking?
Or a wizard like dr_SD should be developed that can guide you through your setup.
