installin anonymous PA-RISC client through ignite

The Ignite server (11iv3 on IA) and PA-RISC client is on different subnets.

On the Ignite server, in the /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab file, i have specified it's IP and MAC address.

On the PA-RISC client console i did "boot lan.ignite_server_ip install", but i am getting the bellow error.

-------------------------------
Booting...
Failed to initialize with ENTRY_INIT Status = -7

0 0 0 0
b 0 0 0

Anyone tell me how to solve this issue ? Is this because of both are not in a same subnet ?

Thanks.

Re: installin anonymous PA-RISC client through ignite

first do a search for bootable devices or specifically lan devices

MA>sea lan

this should find your ignite server and return an ip adrress of it, as it needs to trow a ip at the machine first.

no ip address = no boot over lan

then try to boot with install option.

MA>bo lan install

There is one similar thread available.

Re: installin anonymous PA-RISC client through ignite

for PA-RISC if your ignite server is on a different subnet you typically need to use a Ignite boot helper cd.

IPF is different as the issue was resolved with dbprofiles

the boot helper image must be the same Ignite version as the ignite server. hence created on the ignite server using /opt/ignite/data/scripts/examples/make_media_install

details are in the Ignite admin guide or by reading the make_media_install script.

if you do not have a writable CD/DVD on hpux then transfer to Windows workstation and use the burning software of your choice.

Re: installin anonymous PA-RISC client through ignite

PA-RISC models cannot do lan boot to a different subnet without extra help/setup. (It's a UDP broadcast that only will survive on the subnet.)

I prefer to use media. I put in an install CD/DVD and boot that, then boot to the remote Ignite server. I leave media in the drives for use whenever needed.

Or, I setup an ignite server on a local subnet.

Thank you, let me try with ignite boot helper CD.
