is there any way i can copy the ignite recovery to tape after make_net_recovery ?

hi,

i'd make the make_net_recovery from my server which has no tape, to other server where it has tape...and its done.

and the ignite look like this.

--rw--------- 1 nobody sys 6954536837 Aug 28 11:49 2008-08-28, 10:38

now, i was wondering, can I copy that ignite to tape ?

Shalom,

tar or cpio can be used to copy this information to tape and reliably restore it back to an Ignite Server.

I know of no way to make such a tape bootable. For that you need to use make_tape_recovery

Hi DnD,

Refer to chapter 12 "Creating Your Own Installation Media" in Ignite-UX Admin guide which you can download from docs.hp.com. I was not able to attach the doc due to the size of it. You can create a tape from an archive for booting you PA-RISC systems. You can create an installation DVD for an itanium-based system.
Hope this helps.

Yes. That is good. You can restore your servers from the archive stored on your backup server if needed. The ignite restore through network works absolutely fine & I dont think you will find any trouble doing it.

Shalom,

If source and target are both network accessible,

scp -rp source destination

Is a far faster way to transfer the recovery image.

Some configuration would be required to USE that image on the target ignite server.

DnD,

It is excellent idea to use same ignite server for restoring the backup you have aleady taken here.

Re: is there any way i can copy the ignite recovery to tape after make_net_recovery ?

DnD,

I made some progress toward creating a recovery media on DVD with a combination of the make_sys_image, make_medialif, mkisofs, and growisofs commands. I was able to create the media, but when I tested it there was a problem mounting the filesystem. I haven't had the time to get back and work on it.
