make_net_recovery image to DVD

Hi Gurus,

I want to make the bootable DVD, which will contain the make_net_recover image. This is for IA system. I want to boot restore the image from DVD when system crashes.

I have seen the following things, but not helpful.

1. Creating the BOOtable DVD:- The topics from Ignite UX admin guide says about creating boot image from make_sys_image, but not from make_net_recovery

2. Software recover Handbook, Chapter 8:-

It says about creating bootable tape from the make_net_recovery image. And it also explains about creation Golden boot image CDROM.

I want to create DVD from make_net_recovey image. Please help me.

What is the use make_sys_image. When and how we will use this. because it says, after installing the OS from ignite UX, u can restore the make_sys_image for restoring the original config of the system. As per my knowledge , ignite ux image itself will restore the systems original config. Please clarify on this.

Thanks on advance.

Re: make_net_recovery image to DVD

Shalom Jay,

Here is a guide to a bootable DVD system image, using an HP DVD WRiter.

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90893/B2355-90893.pdf

There is a section on building a DVD image which I've successfully used and tested the DVD.

Note that HP Dvd's that are installed on 9000/Integrity servers are incredibly picky about what media they will write to.

DVD RW+

No other format worked.

Re: make_net_recovery image to DVD

Hi Steve,

This docs says only about create BOOT DVD from the image created by make_sys_image .

I want to create it from make_net_recover image.

Re: make_net_recovery image to DVD

Why do you need to do it from a MTR ?

Is the system not in a state that a new make_sys_image can be used?
Are there space issues?

I've read a little about, but not played with making a bootable DVD. IIRC, at some point you create an archive that you use in some other commands.
Perhaps you could simply replace the MSI archive with the MTR archive:

(
export T=/dev/rmt/0m

mt -f ${T} rew
mt -t ${T}n fsf 1

dd if=${T} bs=10240 \
| gzip > /new_archive

)

Re: make_net_recovery image to DVD

My biggest concern would be the size of the image. DVDs can hold 4.7 Gb of data. Theoretically, your vg00 may contain less than this, but I would be surprised.

Your first concern should be to confirm you can fit everything you want on a DVD, then ask how to go about it.

Re: make_net_recovery image to DVD

Hi,

make_net_recovery internally call make_sys_image to create the image. SO I used the ignite us admin guid chapter 8, to create recover DVD.. Working fione ok..
