make_net_recovery question

I have only 1 HP server which does not have a tape drive attached. Is it possible to do a make_net_recovery of the server to an NFS mounted filesystem on the same server.

Doubtful.

Even if the make_net_recovery worked, how would you make use of it if you ever needed to recover your system?

Using that image requires that the server boots from a another server on the network which has the Ignite/UX software installed. Since you only have 1 server, it can't boot from itself.

Patrick,

Thanks , that's what I was afraid of. I guess if this server ever crashes its back to the CD for a complete re-install.

If I were you, I would see about investing in a tape drive for this server.

A "HP StorageWorks DAT 40 SCSI External Tape Drive (C5687D)" uses DDS4 media and is available via Amazon for $400 - $600.

That is a small price for peace of mind if you ever need to recover the system.

And what OS is running on the server for the NFS filesystem?
