make_net_recovery times

I was wondering if my network backup times are slow compared to the outside world. I am running the following from an Nclass with a 4gb
root file system.

/make_net_recovery -s ihshp4 -x inc_entire=vg00

The ignite server that houses the storage disks is a K420.

Backup time is 1 hour and 20 minutes.
How does this time compare to yours?

Re: make_net_recovery times

Correction, the root file system on the Nclass being backed up is about 6 gbytes and 2 gbyte /dev/swap.

Robert,

Looks about right to me. What kind of network?

Re: make_net_recovery times

100mb, however, the ignite server is using the built-in lan interface at 10mb though. Whay does my ignite tape backup of the same server run for 40 minutes. I would think that running across the net would be faster. Disk faster than tape, correct?

Re: make_net_recovery times

Where I used to work, we had a dedicated backup segment (100 mbit) to do this with. I remember that out K class boxes were about 2GB and completed in 20-25 minutes. The N class boxes were closer to 4GB and too about an hour. These ran during times that network based backups were not running so they had full available bandwidth. Your archive creation time seen fine to me.

Re: make_net_recovery times

Yeah, disk is faster than tape but your limiting factor is going to be the 10MB NIC.

Re: make_net_recovery times

That time for that amount of data over the wire is more than acceptable.

that time seems good. I've seen anywhere from 1.5 to 6 hours on my systems (some are very big)

Re: make_net_recovery times

Hi,

Nearly exact one hour (8GB volume group with about 4GB data).
