make recovery failed

After I run make recovery ,I received the following error :-

make_tape_recovery. Both commands are supported in this
release (Ignite-UX Revision 3.2). Please read the man page
make_tape_recovery(1M) for usage of the new command. In a
future release, make_recovery will be replaced by a script
that calls make_tape_recovery.

Could you post the output of following commands.

Re: make recovery failed

In your .profile or /etc/profile (or whatever is appropriate for the shell you are running) do you set an environment variable called ENV and do you set it as read-only?

typeset -r ENV

Re: make recovery failed

Don't use make_recovery--as stated in the warning message, it is obsolete. Don't use the version you currently have--it is also out of date. Download and install the latest version and then run make_tape_recovery as in:

make_tape_recovery -I -v -x inc_entire=vg00 -a /dev/rmt/0mn

make_tape_recovery must be constantly updated (at least every 6 months) to keep up with new hardware.

Re: make recovery failed

make_tape_recovery may not return the same error. Please try again with the command line that Bill recommends.

If any disks listed in strings /etc/lvmtab are dead or offline, then ignite will fail.

I recommend and immediate upgrade of Ignite at

Re: make recovery failed

Please also make sure that as well as updating Ignite/UX that you apply the latest PAX patch. Ignite should check this anyway, but failure to update pax can cause unusable backups.

eg the latest recommended pax patch for HPUX 11.11 is PHCO_30420.
