make_tape_recovery on a remote tape drive

Hi,

Is it possible for make_tape_recovery be done to a remote tape drive (i.e: a tape drive on another HP box in the same network segment)?
If can, what is the syntax to use?
Thanks in advance.

Re: make_tape_recovery on a remote tape drive

Hi Azzianeizar,

Yes it is possible. The syntax is just different in the device part:

#make_tape_recovery -v -x inc_entire=vg00 -a REMOTE_SERVER>:/dev/rmt/0mn

Re: make_tape_recovery on a remote tape drive

I missed one "<". Here is the correct command:

#make_tape_recovery -v -x inc_entire=vg00 -a :/dev/rmt/0mn

No it is not possible!

Provided your ignite server has sufficient disc space you need make_net_recovery. This will make a backup to the disc on the remote server. You can then make a bootable tape from this backup.

Re: make_tape_recovery on a remote tape drive

Hi,

In fact, as Mark said, you cannot.

Here at my site I do this (because I also have just one tape drive) from the Ignite server but I tought it was possible with :/dev/rmt/omn but ignite doesn't accept this.

Sorry for the bad answer...
