Hi!
I was told that when you goto restore a make_tape_recovery taken from an external dat drive this will not work. I laughed, but he was insistent. So I thought to ask you guys?
The model of each machine is
9000/800/N4000-44
and
9000/800/rp7410
Any comments?
thanks!

Those should work fine.
"He" may have been thinking about some of the early Itanium based systems that could not restore directly from a m_t_r tape. There was a 2 step process for those that involved booting from CD/DVD and then restoring from tape.
Since your servers are PA-RISC based servers, you should be able to boot from the tape and restore your system without any trouble whatsoever.

Re: make_tape_recovery
Shalom,
I recommend trying this out. The Ignite version is key and should be as up to date as conditions allow.
Recent versions of Ignite allow more hardware change transactions like this. Ignite version 5.x had very limited abilities in this area.
As noted above, the hardware is similar. DR test is important to having this work in an emergency.
