pax filesize limitation of 8gb

Quick question,

This came out in my ignite report;
pax: home/oracle/file.dmp : >= 8GB. Not Dumped.
WARNING: The pax command returned a non-zero exit status (exit status 1).
WARNING: The pax command returned a non-zero exit status (exit status 1).
* Creation of system archive complete.

* Cleaning up old configuration file directories

======= 06/30/06 07:39:53 PDT make_tape_recovery completed with warnings

Does this mean that I can still recover from ignite, just that this 9GB file wasn't backed up?

Thanks,
Andy

Re: pax filesize limitation of 8gb

Hi Andy:

Yes, this was a WARNING only. The file in question was skipped.

Andy,

You're correct, the backup is good except for that file.

Re: pax filesize limitation of 8gb

Now go find yourself a baseball bat and hit yourself over the head with it at least three times --- hard. An 8GB or larger file just doesn't belong in /home. The idea is to keep all of vg00 small so that Ignite recoveries can be done quickly. When you need huge /home directories, you are probably doing it wrong.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: pax filesize limitation of 8gb

The large file was a mistake that was created this week and has since been removed as soon as I found out. I guess my main purpose was to find out whether the make tape was any good or not.

I got the answer I needed. Without a baseball bat.

Andy -
Glad you got your answer.
Below is a link the bat guy might find useful.
