rebuild an Ignite server
I have an Ignite server with all the archives on it, it is down now, I have a spare system with the same hardware that is model 9000/785/J500 running HPUX B11.00, so I would like to rebuild that spare system with the same OS & Ignite-UX configuration (Ig-UX version B5.3.35). I have a tape with backup all the Ignite information under the directories: /var/opt/Ignite/clients, /opt/ignite/bin & all the archives. Would you help me to give me a idea that what is the quick way that I can rebuild the Ignite system with a less down time.
Thank you.
Jenn.

Re: rebuild an Ignite server
Few things:
Install Ignite clean on the new box.
Then restore only your configuration files.
You should have a working server then.
Note that Ignite 5.35 was not particularly stable and was actually recalled by HP.
You can install a later stable version of Ignite and then restore your configuration files. It will probably work well.

Re: rebuild an Ignite server
I would like to know that:
- what is a later stable version of Ignite that you recommended? please give me a website that I can get it, thank you.
- to restore the configuration files - you mean that to restore the directories: /var/opt/Ignite/clients, /opt/ignite/bin & all the archives with an old version 5.35
- Install Ignite clean on the new box - you mean that - install HPUX OS 11.00, then install a later stable version of Ignite.
Steven, in this case, I will have a diffrent version of Ignite in my Ignite server while all the clients had an old version of Ignite 5.35., so do you think the old archives will be restore from the server to the clients without problem?
Thank you for support,
Jen

Re: rebuild an Ignite server
I believe your old archives would restore properly on a later version of Ignite.
For best chances at compatability I'd recommend the latest in the 5.x series.
Problem is its not the version posted on http://software.hp.com
To specfically get that version you'd need to contact a response center and open a call. They can probably grant temporary access to an ftp site with older versions.

The link above is the latest version. I'm resaonably sure it will also work with your older archives. Choice is yours. Glad to clarify if needed.

Re: rebuild an Ignite server
I would like to clarify the steps that I can do before I do start to rebuild the Ignite system:
1. Install clean HPUX 11.00 OS,
2. Install Ignite software & do configuration
3. Restore /var/opt/ignite/clients & the archives directories of all the clients that I had done backup before.
are there any other steps that I need to do?
Thank you very much
Jen.
