receiving excessive errors from the I/O subsystem

Hi,

I wanted to restore an IGNITE tape to one of our rp-server but it is not working due to the following error:

======= 01/16/06 11:12:08 EST HP-UX Installation Initialization. (Mon Jan 16

DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM WARNING:
The diagnostic logging facility has started receiving excessive
errors from the I/O subsystem. I/O error entries will be lost
until the cause of the excessive I/O logging is corrected.
If the diaglogd daemon is not active, use the Daemon Startup command
in stm to start it.
If the diaglogd daemon is active, use the logtool utility in stm
to determine which I/O subsystem is logging excessive errors.

What could that mean, could it be that the fibre channel cable to the SAN is broken or the whole I/O ?

Thanks

Re: receiving excessive errors from the I/O subsystem

It simply means the component disks needed to create volume Group /dev/vgdb is lacking. Do you include non-OS stuff in your Ignite backup?

Re: receiving excessive errors from the I/O subsystem

Hi,

yes, we always include non-OS stuff in our Ignite backup.

But the question was more related to this part:
DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM WARNING:
The diagnostic logging facility has started receiving excessive
errors from the I/O subsystem. I/O error entries will be lost
until the cause of the excessive I/O logging is corrected.
If the diaglogd daemon is not active, use the Daemon Startup command
in stm to start it.
If the diaglogd daemon is active, use the logtool utility in stm
to determine which I/O subsystem is logging excessive errors.

Does that mean I have a problem with the whole I/O system/card/whatsoever ?

Or could it be just one fibre channel cable to the SAN solution, even the internal disks are also mentioned ?

Thanks

Andree

Re: receiving excessive errors from the I/O subsystem

Yes it is SAN related. We do get the same exact messages once in a while.
