Re: remote make_tape_recovery ??????

You will have to have some ignite software on both servers to back one up to the other.

You cannot do a remote tape backup but, if server A has enough disc space, you can use make_net_recovery and back server B up to disc. You will then be able to make a tape from the disc backup.

Re: remote make_tape_recovery ??????

Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, you will need to have minimum ignite/ux software installed on the server to back it up.

do you know how big space if i have to backup 2 X 4 GB disks from server B ?

the funny thing is that ignite is starting up on the remote servers tape so it look like its possible
it just say wrong pax version and stops

Re: remote make_tape_recovery ??????

Two discs? Are they both vg00?

If not, I would suggest a rethink. Ignite is recommended for only vg00 - for application data it is best to use something like Omniback.

Re: remote make_tape_recovery ??????

Peter,

Real easy to find. If both are under vg00 or if any of the root filesystems such as /usr is on the other volume group then do 'bdf' and add all the "USED" records.

If vg00 has only one disk, then do the same thing except 'bdf |grep vg00'.

For me it looks like 10.20 has some ignite software installed on it.

Re: remote make_tape_recovery ??????

Hi Peter,

Yes. When you add a client, ignite/ux will try to install client software on it. If you have relatively new software on the ignite server, it will try to push it's version onto 10.20.

You are really running out of options here. Schedule a production change window, remove the client, remove the ignite software completely from 10.20 and add it again as a client. Try installing the pax patch from itrc. This won't impact your system at all except that your management may want you to do it during non-business hours.

Solution

Re: remote make_tape_recovery ??????

OK. I will try to be more specific.

Schedule a window because you are saying that 10.20 is very critical production server.

1. Since you added 10.20 system as a client to 11.0 system, remove it from the ignite gui.
2. Remove the ignite software from 10.20 completely.

swlist -l product |grep -i ignite

note the products (not patches) and do an swremove on them

swremove Ignite-UX (etc)
3. Compare the Ignite/UX version of your 11.0 server with the one on the website here

http://software.hp.com/products/IUX/download.html

If it too old, (you are ok upto 2 versions), then download the new one and install it on 11.0

4. Add 10.20 system back as client on the 11.0 ignite server.

5. Download the pax patch for 10.20 from here

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PHCO_20388&context=hpux:800:10:20

and install it.

Run make_tape_recovery on 10.20 and see if it works. You can do it either from command line on 10.20 or from the ignite gui on 11.0.
