restore from rp7420 to superdome

i've restore the make tape recovery from a rp7420 to a superdome and it booted up fine. I've done a mk_kernel and it works too. Is there anything i need to check to really confirm that the hpux from the rp7420 to the superdome is working fine?

Re: restore from rp7420 to superdome

Hi Chew,

Make sure all the software that are installed is in configured state. meaning the below command should not give any output. If there was any filesets that were currupt or in the state other than configured this command will throw out the culprit filesets. Meaning you have to work more to get this filesets fixed. The command is...

# swlist -a state -l fileset | grep -v -e configured -e "^#"

Re: restore from rp7420 to superdome

There are rules to cloning unlike hardware.

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90959/ch09s10.html

Caveat:
In each case, the source system that is used must contain software that is compatible with all clients. This means that the version of HP-UX, patches, drivers, etc., must be sufficient for all systems involved. This often requires installing a superset of software and drivers onto the source system that will be used on all potential clients.

This page suggest other ways to clone.

Normally and I have done this many times, you should not have any issues. I've even did the extreme of simply moving the bootdisks between partionable environments rp series and SuperDome -- with no issues.

I can however suggest -- IF your ITRC is linked to your support contract, then run a Custom Patch Assessment after your migration.

Shalom,

I think have done well, but should monitor how stable the system remains over time.

There is a system cloning methodoloty that supports what you are trying to do. Its called Ignite Golden Images and is specifically designed to deal with the hardware differences.
