Solution
please specify if you have taken ignite backup on tape or on server ..
It is on another server , this can be done by creating a directory of the MAC address of the new server (that what u have mentioned in /etc/bootptab or instl_adm)
check the permissions and ownership of the dir
then create a link of hostname pointing to that dir
then copy the CINDEX and recovery files from the server directory ( of the server that has the ignite backup ) and put it in the newly created dir .
now reboot the server and take it to ignite menu there you'll get the recovery archive to install from .

Re: restore ignite image to another server
In theory taking backup up in a server an restoration another server if they are compatible with each other is possible.
But in practice you need to be modified as IP, hostname etc. configuration files restored server, lots of workaround need it.

so I take the image to the server ignite
I will try your proposition and will come back to you.
