restoring from DVD

We were able to make an Ignite DVD using the notes here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90970/ch08s04.html

I can boot from the DVD and get the installation menus.

However, we are new to Ignite and are not sure what to pick on the menu.

Do we pick "Install HP-UX", "Run a Recovery Shell" or "Advanced Tools"? The documentation isn't clear to us.

If we pick "Install HP-UX", do we select "Media Only Installation" and "Guided Installation" or "Advanced Installation"?

Basically, we want to clone a server to itself (build a server, make a Ignite DVD, then prove we can restore the server with the DVD).

The DVD will not be used to make multiple systems (it is just used to restore the server it was built on exactly as it was before).

Re: restoring from DVD

INstall HPUX

if you want the system to be restored exactly how it was burned to the DVD then select guided. If you wish to modify anything , i.e. IP, filesystem layout etc.. then choose Advanced.

Re: restoring from DVD

Pick "Install HP-UX" and if you don't want to make any changes to file systems, network, hostname etc. (basically intalling the same server)pick "media only" answer no to any request for interaction, it should install everything....

Re: restoring from DVD

Anthony,

When choosing install keep in mind that stuff like /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/nsswitch.conf won't be there are the same as before the crash.

Read page 275-276 of the manual you specified.

Re: restoring from DVD

Page 275 is a section called "Ignite-UX Server Problems" and does not discuss having to reset network files after a restore. Is this the section you meant to refer to?

Found it - I think you meant 285.

Re: restoring from DVD

We added some filesystems, and increased the size of others (/var for example). Is this type of information preserved?

Can you provide more detail, or point to the appropriate doc page?

Re: restoring from DVD

Well, we have one answer that says "pick Guided", one that says "pick no interaction".

Do we need a tie-breaker from someone else?
