rp4440 with ultrium 460 support ignite_UX ?

Can I ask you a question:

If I had rp4440-8 server running with HP-UX 11i and using Q1520A Storageworks Ultrium 460 connected using A6828A PCI ultra 160 SCSI adapter.

Can I use Ignite-UX as a bootable for recovery my hard disk failure ?

The main problem would be the tapedrive... Anything else is alright. It might work, but not everything is supported by HP. For instance, I've made recovery tapes in the past on DLT drives, and they worked great. But if I had a problem, HP would just have responded that using DLT for ignite is unsupported... The same can be the case for the ultrium drive.

All the web site information I looked was too old for a new server.

Also there was no information related to ultrium 460 only for ultrium 230 and ultrium 215

When it comes to tape drives, it is easy to assume that all similar technologies mean compatibility, but this is only true at the media level. Tape drive controls have been a source of endless incompatibilites (worse than SCSI), especially between manufacturers. Ignite/UX can probably create a tape but whether it would be bootable depends on the firmware in the tape drive as well as the processor, neither have anything to do with HP-UX.

We use a storage-works 320 ( ultrium1 ) for backups and ignites. I have also build a new rp3440 machine form an ignite tape from a rp4440 machine.
Ultrium2 ? It should work, test it !

The only way to be sure is test.

I can see some obstacles but even with complete compatability, we went into a peformance center and tested things out.

Then we were confident.
