Re: taking ignite backup

Ignite does backup the operating system (vg00) either to tape or to an ignite server.

In case of emergency you can easily restore this image to get a running system.

See

Hope this helps!

Re: taking ignite backup

I mean will it have any effect if i take the backup when there are a lot of users accessing the system?

Re: taking ignite backup

I suppose it would be best to do the backup during a quiet period, but I don't think it will have any effect on your users.

It should not, unless your system were very heavily loaded, and then I would expect mainly the burden of increased I/O on your vg00 volume group.

Do no be disturbed if you see a few messages for missing files in '/var/spool' for example. An index of files to copy is created in an initial pass and when the actual copy later occurs, temporary files have sometimes been removed during otherwise normal processing.
