ultrium 230 make_tape_recovery

I have read some threads which suggest that the 230 is capable of making a tape recovery.

I'm having trouble, a ' Error reading IPL' error.

Do any of you have trouble or not?

Running HP-UX 11.00 on L 3000

Hi,

This looks not like a problem with the tape drive.
This looks more like a problem with your LIF area on the boot disk.

You could check with:
lifls -l /dev/rdsk/cxtxdx (x is your device file)
if the LIF area on disk is ok !

1.How did you create the make_tape_recovery tape.
2.Are you using the created tape with the 230 ultrium to boot the server?

Hi,

Did you try to use another tape ?
sometimes a tape defect gives same error's.

You could try to do a sea ipl during boot to see if the tape is found as bootable !

Which version of ignite are you using ?
If not a recent version try to use the newest one.

To boot from the tape
specify the path to the tape drive.
Interrupt the boot process
do SEA to search all bootable devices.
and

Type 'n' To avoid interacting with IPL.

Yes a DLT in general should work, no exceptions made in the release notes:

Except using the B version off Ignite.

First check the tape using

mt -t /dev/rmt/0mn fsf 1
tar -tvf /dev/rmt/0m

Did you create the tape using the no -rewind option.

dev/rmt/0mn

n-->no rewind
