Re: use ignite to build new servers
Golden images are supposed to be relatively hardware independent.
Though the source server is cell based on the target is not.
Maybe cut a golden image on a server thats a little more toward the same hardware type.

Re: use ignite to build new servers
Unlike the rx8640 the rx2660 has a SAS controller. Without a driver the system has no access to the disk.
Also consider to create a integrated RAID for vg00.
Go to http://docs.hp.com -> Servers -> rx2660 -> internal raid for the documentation.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: use ignite to build new servers
I think we have our cause.
The rx26xx series needs a SAS driver and there is no way to install such a driver on the source system.
The problem with that theory is as part of the Ignite Golden Image setup process, you were supposed to swcopy the Core OS into the image.
If that Core OS image is before September 2006 it won't install on an rx2660 due to the lack of a SAS driver.
You need to merely rebuild the Core OS portion of the Golden image with September 2006 or later and it should work.

and this:

"HP recommends the installation of the HP-UX 11i v2 OE Update Release for September 2006 for full HP-UX support with these new servers. Earlier OE releases will require the addition of key HP-UX components from the September 2006 OE release for minimal HP-UX support with new hardware:

Re: use ignite to build new servers
IG-UX have limited supported when it comes to using it with Integrity servers with SAS controllers/devices. Refer the document
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-0511/5992-0511.pdf
As mentioned in the document, create SAS device IM using EFI utilities like drvcfg/cfggen as per document
http://docs.hp.com/en/J6369-90045/index.html
Then try to ignite the server with the golden image. Keep in mind as mentioned already, for this server the golden image should have been created with Sep'-06 OS OE or later. If not, then have the required drivers ( as this server's hardware is different than earlier servers) depots installed on the Ignite server so that they can be installed as a part of Ignite process.

Re: use ignite to build new servers
1. upgrade IgniteUX from C.6.7 to C.6.8 and SAS driver error messages went away;
2. system rx2660 can download enough info to get to the ITOOL;
3. in ITOOL UI, there is no local harddisk found in system for Ignite to see;
| Disks: 0 ( 0.0GB) |
4. it doesn't come to the selecting Ignite images yet so I still think it is more ignite / firmware related;
5. I can see fs0, fs1 in EFI Shell;
6. system comes with 11.23.0609 (factory installed) - boot up no problem;
Any thoughts?
Lorne

SolutionFrom the web:
"Enhancements in the Ignite-UX C.6.9.141 September 2006 media release included the following:
...
Supports new hardware enabled by the HP-UX release"
http://docs.hp.com/en/IUX/whatsnew.html
I would consider to install the current version.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: use ignite to build new servers
sasd: [ALERT] Driver detected a software downgrade.
sasd: The current driver version is unsupported
sasd: for the Serial SCSI HBA at hw path 0/1/1/0.
sasd: Please install the latest SerialSCSI-00 depot ASAP.
I can build OS from there.
