what replaces the old check_recovery?

We now have ignite version 3.6.82. We used to run check_recovery with the older version of ignite, but check_recovery does not work with the newer version. How do you now do a comparison to what was run previously so that you can know whether or not to do another make_tape_recovery?

Re: what replaces the old check_recovery?

Use the "-C" option in make_recovery. If you do ..
# man make_recovery
and it mentioned about "check_recovery" capability in the "-C" option.

Re: what replaces the old check_recovery?

As a recall from an HP Class I took...

The check_recovery process slows the make_recovery process down considerably. HP removed the feature and would probably suggest that a regular schedule be maintained. We run it weekly.

Re: what replaces the old check_recovery?

Hi Kathy:

As you have found, 'check_recovery' is obsolete. There is no replacement. The philosophy behind having a 'check_recovery' utility has changed.

Simply, routinely execute (or schedule), 'make_tape_recovery' to cover changes in configuration. The old 'check_recovery' essentially made a snapshot of file timestamps and then compared that snapshot to a current configuration when run again. In practice, if you felt the need to run a 'check_recovery', you probably found out that you needed to recreate a recovery tape anyway.

Use the more robust 'make_tape_recovery' in lieu of 'make_recovery'.

Regards!
