Warum Infrastructure as Code der nächste Schritt für die IT ist
Author: Ben Lovejoy
“A man without a machine is a secondary; the machine makes him a free man, ”said Henry Ford, long before Infrastructure as Code was developed.
IT fans share this groundbreaking thought: Everything that can be done mechanically should also be done by one machine.
Automated processes are not only faster, cheaper and more reliable, but also free us from monotonous tasks. So we can concentrate on what machines are not yet so good at: thinking.
The evolution of automation
At the beginning of the 20th century, automation concentrated on mechanical elements, later on electronic ones. Automation reached a new level in the 21st century.
This is where the concept of infrastructure as code comes into play. If infrastructure is treated as code, the IT department is responsible for strategic tasks. It decides how the company's requirements can be met. The software is responsible for the implementation of this vision, from the first steps to the implementation of the application.
This approach goes far beyond conventional programming. Scripts tell systems what to do. Infrastructure as code means that IT managers define the desired goal. The automated systems work towards this goal, regardless of the starting point or problems that occur in the process.
Anregungen dazu finden Sie hier: Get faster value from 'infrastructure as code'.
Welche Erfahrungen haben Sie mit Infrastructure as Code gemacht? Wo sehen Sie Vorteile und Herausforderungen? Wir sind auf Ihre Kommentare gespannt.
