Insight Control for Linux "Power on Server"

Having a problem getting the "Power on Server" feature to work.

Here is the error message:
Unable to communicate with management processor: Error retrieving BMC for server. Root cause:PANIC:Error
instantiating BMCManager for BMC of server
WARNING: Credentials unavailable for the management processor of specified server

I've checked the system credentials multiple times. SSH, SSO, WS-MAN are all good. The systems were successfully discovered in SIM.

HP SIM 5.3 update 1
HP Insight Control suite for Linux 2.11

HP Proliant DL385G6
ICE Linux and HP ILO Advanced are licensed.

This is a bare metal system, with no operating system installed yet.

Many thanks for any help.

Looks to me like the iLo device is malfunctioning.

IT looks like a hardware failure.

Re: Insight Control for Linux "Power on Server"

Thanks for the reply.

I just tried a different server, same model.
Same results. :-(

These are brand new servers, and have never had anything installed on them. (Shouldn't make any difference.)

I'm quite sure it's something I've done wrong with ICE / HPSIM. I'm just not sure what it is.

It looks as though, it's not finding the credentials I've supplied to it.

Which set of credentials is it looking for? SSH, SNMP, SSO, or some other?

Re: Insight Control for Linux "Power on Server"

Probably you should try a firmware update for the ilo-board. Even if the server is brand new, the firmware delivered with it is often newer than the one installed.

Both are on 1.81 firmware. (The latest)

Re: Insight Control for Linux "Power on Server"

When you first install ICE-Linux, you are asked a series of questions. One of the questions is the common username/password for the management processor (e.g. iLO). When you do a bare-metal discovery of the server, ICE-Linux will automatically set those credentials on the iLO. ICE-Linux will use those credentials to power on/off the server. Please confirm that you successfully bare-metal discovered the server without any errors. If you go to "Tasks & Logs" and "View Task Results ...", there should be a task called "Bare Metal Discovery Post Processing". That's where the iLO credentials would get set. If it's been a few days, that task may have gotten deleted, but you can always try deleting the server and iLO and doing the bare-metal discovery again.
