Problem with HP System Management Homepage (SMH)

Hi,

I'm trying to use HP SMH to monitor the lone server I have (for now). I believe I have installed everything correctly, including the snmpd.conf file. I have hp-health, hp-snmp-agents and hp-ilo running. SMH comes up, but I get no meaningful information. The HP command line utilities seem to work (for exemple, I can see the status of my redundant power supplies using hpasmcli).

But in SMH there is nothing. One of the obvious things is that the "System model" is NULL.

snmpd.conf is set with ro/rw community string for localhost, and a community string for the management console (which is running on the same server, of course since it's smh).

The VCA log does show an error: "The ProLiant Insight Agents are not installed or running, so inventory data is not available.". I don't know if it's relevant, but it seems like it would be. I do not know why the version control agent would tell me that, since hp-snmp-agents is definitely running.

Any ideas?

Shalom,

Complete installation of PSP, Proliant Service Pack for you OS. A full installation will lead to some actual data, where currently there is none.

What do you mean by "complete installation"? I am running install820.sh, and it completes successfully.

But I still do not see anything on SMH.

Is this normal or a problem? I am running this on a DL360G5, definitely HP hardware...

Re: Problem with HP System Management Homepage (SMH)

Hi,

Did you install the correct ProLiant Support Pack for your unspecified version of Linux ?

Cheers,

Re: Problem with HP System Management Homepage (SMH)

Yes, I installed the PSP 8.20 for Red Hat Enterprise 5 (running CentOS 5.3 with a redhat-release file fooled into think I'm running RHEL5).

Everything seems fine, and there are no errors. It's a pain to troubleshoot when no errors appear.

Re: Problem with HP System Management Homepage (SMH)

Can you post the output of "uname -a" ?

Just want to be sure that you're running what you thing you're running !

Re: Problem with HP System Management Homepage (SMH)

Rob,

uname -a:

Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 #1 SMP Thu May 7 10:35:59 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Is this what you needed?

Re: Problem with HP System Management Homepage (SMH)

Yep. As I thought, it looks like you've attempted to load the 32-bit version of the PSP, rather than the 64-bit verison.

Try the version available here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=1121486&prodNameId=3288144&swEnvOID=4004&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-dd6cd48330af496c95f86736ea

Hope this helps,

Re: Problem with HP System Management Homepage (SMH)

I had no idea how this worked before I reinstalled the server, but this just fixed this problem AND the small one I had before that HP Support couldn't fix.

Thank you, and shame on me.
