After applying patches, the cimsub -ls output is different

I have a few of my servers (both physical and Integrity VM guests) running under the latest diagnostics patch bundle and SFM without any issues. Took awhile to get things right, but they work under SFM and Insight Mgr. Test events are processed correctly.

So, if I do a => evweb subscribe -L -b external
I get the following, and it is consistent with all of the 11.31 servers that I have done to date.

Filter Name Handler Name Query Destinat Destination Url
========================================================== =========================================================== ========================================================================================= ======== ==============================
HPSIM_rmsismgr_0 HPSIM_rmsismgr select * from HP_DeviceIndication UNKNOWN
HPSIM_rmsismgr_1 HPSIM_rmsismgr select * from HP_ThresholdIndication UNKNOWN
EMS_INTERNAL_145817601 EMS_INTERNAL_145817601 SELECT * FROM HP_DeviceIndication WHERE ProviderName = "CMC_IndicationProviderIA" UNKNOWN
EMS_INTERNAL_145817604 EMS_INTERNAL_145817604 SELECT * FROM HP_DeviceIndication WHERE ProviderName = "CPE_IndicationProviderIA" UNKNOWN
EMS_INTERNAL_145817607 EMS_INTERNAL_145817607 SELECT * FROM HP_DeviceIndication WHERE ProviderName = "FPL_IndicationProvider" UNKNOWN
EMS_INTERNAL_145817610 EMS_INTERNAL_145817610 SELECT * FROM HP_DeviceIndication WHERE ProviderName = "CoreHardwareIndicationProviderIA" UNKNOWN
EMS_INTERNAL_145817613 EMS_INTERNAL_145817613 SELECT * FROM HP_DeviceIndication WHERE ProviderName = "MemoryIndicationProviderIA" UNKNOWN
HPWEBES_rmsismgr.courts.local_17_Filter_HP_AlertIndication HPWEBES_rmsismgr.courts.local_17_Handler_HP_AlertIndication select * from HP_AlertIndication UNKNOWN

But, after I applied patches PHCO_40087 and PHSS_40212, I now see the following. Both patches installed without any issue.

Filter Name Handler Name Query Destinat Destination Url
========================================================== =========================================================== ======================================== ======== ==============================
HPSIM_rmsismgr_0 HPSIM_rmsismgr select * from HP_DeviceIndication UNKNOWN
HPSIM_rmsismgr_1 HPSIM_rmsismgr select * from HP_ThresholdIndication UNKNOWN
HPWEBES_rmsismgr.courts.local_17_Filter_HP_AlertIndication HPWEBES_rmsismgr.courts.local_17_Handler_HP_AlertIndication select * from HP_AlertIndication UNKNOWN

So, any subscriptions that had 'EMS_INTERNAL' appear to be gone. Test events still are being processed correctly.

After updating a couple of others, the same changes in the evweb output appeared. But, of course I got one who is now showing the 'new' output plus two out of original five EMS_INTERNAL subscriptions.

So, I know have the following questions that need to be answered before I can continue to do the SFM rollout.

1. Is this change in the evweb output supposed to happen? The change is that all five of the EMS_INTERNAL ones have disappeared.

2. And if #1 is a yes, then what do I do with the one that is still showing two of the old EMS_INTERNAL subscriptions. Do I have to remove them via cimsub?

So I ran a cimsub on three examples. Note that the output is identical for two, but every different when I just apply the patches.

Here's a few 'cimsub -ls' outputs to illustrate my concerns.

Please note how different the output is in the last example. And I have no idea which one is correct. The OS level and patches are
extremely similar.

I really don't want to have to reinstall SFM just to get the patches in. But at the same time, I don't know if the "new" output is the correct one. I've been waiting for a week for HP to do anything on this quesion.

Re: After applying patches, the cimsub -ls output is different

After applying EVM and SFM patches, what is the diag mode ?
Please show us the output of the following command:

# sfmconfig -w -q

Maybe you are using EMS diag mode.

I'm using 11.31 0909 system upgraded from 0903. SFM diag mode is
the default mode since SFM March 2008 (11.31 C.03.00.06.yy, 11.23
B.06.00.04.yy). Then the five EMS_INTERNAL external subscriptions
are present. But when I switch the diag mode from SFM to EMS,
those subscriptions are gone. Of course, they are reberted back
as external subscriptions after switching to SFM diag mode.

By the way, did you upgrade OnlineDiag and ProviderSvcsBase ?

After the release of OnlineDiag and SFM at March 2009, both
products must be upgraded together as described in the following
release notes. Also both products depend on ProviderSvcsBase.

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/diag/sfm/sfm_0903_1131.htm

The following matrix shows the swdepot versions when 11.31 0909
OE is cold-installed:

Re: After applying patches, the cimsub -ls output is different

SFM is monitoring the system. I am using the 09/09 diagnostics mega bundle which includes all of the latest parts & pieces except for a few providers. Those I have also.

My concern is that the subscriptions are different. My gut feeling right now is that if I uninstall SFM and reinstall it with the patches, rather than just apply the two patches, I'm back to normal. It's just a large pain in the butt with this software to always be going back to square one whenever there is any new software.

And as usual the Response Center is right on top of these things. This case has been open since the 9th with zero assistance.
