SolutionTo monitor, produce problem reports and notifications for Tru64 or OpenVMS you really need two additional applications:
Firstly Error Log Monitor and Collector (ELMC) which is light weight application that you install on the monitored GS1280.
WEBes which can be installed via the Remote Support Software Manager (RSSWM - part of HPSIM 5.3).
Take a look at Start > All programs > Hewlett Packard > Remote Support Software Manager > you should see something like Remote Support Software manager Initialisation - invoke this (choose the default settings for download) and several packages will be sucked down from HP - one of which is WEBes and others are OPTIONAL ELMC depot's for most platforms.
Within WEBes you will find an application installed called System Event Analyzer (SEA) - this is what will analyze and produce problem reports for Tru64 or VMS.
Assuming that HPSIM can see the GS1280 it should populate SEA with relevant information but it is still worth checking.
The above is a very brief explanation but I hope it helps - to summarise:
Install ELMC and the GS1280 and download and install WEBes on the HPSIM box.
If you only wish to monitor Alphas and Command View EVA servers - there is an additional product called Insight Remote Support Standard Software which uses only WEBes but still provides the discovery features with an Admin Console.

Re: HP SIM configuring to monitor the Alpha GS1280
If by Management port you mean the console connection which plugs into the 8P drawers then the answer will be no - although the console subsystem is a 10.x.x.x network going to the NAT box - VMS or Tru64 will treat this port as the console ie: OPA0: in VMS.
Use a NIC in one of the PCI-X boxes or one in each partition if the system is Hard or Soft partitioned.
