IRS 7.0.5 no Service Events being logged
I have installed IRS 7.0.5 on a Windows 2008 R2 VM sitting on top of ESX 5.0.
Installed prereqs for IRS and then IRS itself (created all firewall exceptions)
Configured a c7000 chassis running OA f/w 3.60 to register with Remote Support. The OA appears in IRS as expected. When I send a Test Event from the OA it does not show up in IRS.
I have run WireShark on the IRS server and I can see traffic arriving from the OA when the Test Event is sent.
I have also tried sending test events from a P4000 SAN configured in IRS and an ESX server configured in IRS and am having the same issue with these.
I have disabled the firewall on the IRS server to see if this was interferring but to no avail
Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot some more
Thanks in advance, Steve

Re: IRS 7.0.5 no Service Events being logged
In the Insight RS UI, are all your devices displayed and eligible, enabled and entitled? If the enabled checkbox is not selected or the eligible/entitled columns are presenting a red ‘x’, the events won’t be processed.
If they are all checked/green as needed, I think the next place to look is the log when you submit a test event. The log you want can be found in ProgramData\HP\RS\LOG\ - look for a log file with the format, hprs-2012-10-xx.0.txt where the ‘xx’ is the numeric day of the month.
The log entries of interest for event processing have the tag ‘EventAnalysis’ with a thread ID to further focus your troubleshooting if needed. A couple log entries of interest would be:
- “Xx subscriptions found for event: yyy” - this log entry indicates whether Insight RS was able to map an analysis rule set to the device based on protocol, device type, and entitlement. Obviously, it’s not the easiest thing to digest, but if you post the log entry, it may help identify why events are not coming through.
- Event rejected by callout xxx by rule yyy – this log entry indicates that the event matched an Insight RS rule that basically discards the event. I wouldn't expect this to apply to test events, but if you see this entry, please post a snippet of log activity around this entry. Please be careful not to post any private data when putting log information on the forum.
Thanks
Eric

Re: IRS 7.0.5 no Service Events being logged
Hi Eric,
Thanks for replying,
The c7000 is a test chassis we use and is over 3 years old and has no extended care packs on it
On the 'Warranty & Contract' screen the OA shows as 'Support Type' = 'Not Entitled' so I guess this is the cause. I'm a bit disappointed as I would expect a 'Test' event to show up to prove that everything is OK.
I've looked at the log file and I've extracted the following:

Re: IRS 7.0.5 no Service Events being logged
Hi Steve,
Yes, that appears to be the issue then. The logs also confirm it with the entry:
No subscriptions found for event: ERS_EVENT: null: MANAGEMENT_DEVICE: Onboard Administrator: OTHER: NO_SLA
Where the ‘NO_SLA’ reflects that we don’t have a service level agreement for the device in question.
Thanks,
Eric
