isee - performance impact questions

Hi,

I would like to know how much impact it has to install HP ISEE on a server running HPUX 11.0 / 11i.

I understand that crontabs are set up running diagnostics so this could be scheduled to run a quite moment. But what other processes are running full time? Logging? webserver? what about client access to the system, what kind of tools will they be able to run?

The above questions should be seen in a advanced scenario with a local SPOP.

Can I find more detailed documents then the generic ones that will elaborate a little towards my questions?

Thanks,
Alex

Re: isee - performance impact questions

Alex,
You should not notice the difference because:

Mad daemon would idle most of the time, unless when it needs to send the incident to your SPOP (which is only around 5kb) or send a poll every 10 minutes (very small in size).

Data collections are not big either, they have average of 259kb in size.

Hope this helps,

Re: isee - performance impact questions

Hi Liem,

Thanks for clearing that up. Very helpfull.

Do you know where I can find more information? I would like to know about the additional processes on the system such as a web server and would like to determine what kind of security measurements need to be taken or bypassed (firewall).

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Todd,

Thanks. That document was quite handy indeed but (I know I'm pushing it) is there more detailed information available?

Thanks,

Re: isee - performance impact questions

Hi Alex,

What type of details? If your setting up an advanced configuration your account rep. can share w/ you the security whitepapers and presentations for that configuration etc.

For the ISEE clients the basic requirement is that they can get out to these site via port 80:

Depending on your location etc. :

http://isee.americas.hp.com/mots/motserv

http://isee.europe.hp.com/mots/motserv

http://isee.asiapac.hp.com/mots/motserv

For an advanced configuration with an SPOP that system uses SSL to get out so port 443/ssl needs to be open as well as port 80.

If HP is doing remote access to your site you will need to open up UDP 500 or IPsec and port 50 for ESP protoccol etc.

Hope that helps some.

Todd
