HPE is stepping up and setting climate targets in line with a new level of climate ambition

ChrisWellise

The scale of the climate crisis is more visible than ever – disrupting people, business operations and economies around the world. At HPE, we recognize the imperative to minimize our industry’s environmental footprint, as well as the opportunity to position ourselves as business and technology leaders enabling a low-carbon economy.

In June, global leaders issued an open letter challenging CEOs to set ambitious targets for their companies in line with last October’s report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which made the case for limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels in order to limit the worst impacts of climate change.

We responded to this call as one of the first corporate movers resetting our operational science-based emissions reduction targets in line with a 1.5°C trajectory. Today, we are joining a call-to-action, issued by a broad coalition of business, civil society and UN leaders, to step up climate targets in line with this new level of ambition and make the critical and necessary contributions to keeping global temperature increase within 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. We are calling on our suppliers, customers, and industry peers to work together to drive strategies that reduce climate impacts and connect targets to climate science.

The scale of companies committing to action today is proof that low-carbon business models are imperative to compete and succeed in the 21st century. Building a prosperous, net-zero carbon economy by 2050 requires a transformation of unprecedented pace and scale, with decisive business leadership and investment in climate solutions supported by ambitious government policies. By setting ambitious policies and targets in line with a 1.5°C trajectory, Governments give business the clarity and confidence to invest decisively in the zero-carbon economies of the future.
