When I try to get into the ORCA utility, using DRVCFG -S [xx] [xx] it takes me right to the Emulex FC interface. Any assistance would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!
The Monarch has HP Smart Array P410i Controller (version 3.02)
The Auxiliary has HP Smart Array P410i Controller (version 3.02)
There is a HBA installed: Emulex FC EFI-Bios Utility, Ver: 4.00a8
Solved! Go to Solution.

Re: BL870c i2 cannot configure local SAS drive.
IMPORTANT: this is obviously a BL870c i2 (second generation of BL870c).
This has a smartarray 410i installed (better: 2 of them).
This controllers can be in HBA or RAID mode.
Controller must be in RAID mode, otherwise ORCA is disabled.
Get current config:
# sautil /dev/ciss0

For switching modes (caution: data loss!) you need the controller firmware update bundle.
Make sure to use the current firmware 5.16!
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: BL870c i2 cannot configure local SAS drive.
Is it possible to see that from the Shell> prompt within the EFI interface?

SolutionIIRC this firmware is too old to support RAID mode.
Update!
The readme has all instruction how to update and list/switch mode.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: BL870c i2 cannot configure local SAS drive.
Obviously upgrading the firmware is the logical choice here. However, for simplicity sake, I need to make this change quicker than trying to schedule a firmware upgrade/outage. I thought I remembered seeing an option where I can download files to a USB, insert the USB and browse using the EFI interface and run a tool that would switch the mode from SAN to RAID. Have you heard of such a thing?

Re: BL870c i2 cannot configure local SAS drive.
This is exactly what i sent you - copy to an usb stick and run the tool from efi.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
