Cannot boot Server rx7640 after upgrading memory with OS_MCA_NOT_REGISTERED error

Dear experts,

We're occurring with an issues and cannot resolve. Now I posted this thread and please help me.

We have an HP rx7640 installed Redhat Linux 5.3 Ent with two cell board:

- Cell 0: 8 x 4G

- Cell 1: 16 x 2G

Now we need to upgrade memory for Cell 0 with 08 DIMM 4G, this RAM we have remove from other RX7640 (Same server type) at DC.

After we completed physically attach. We cannot boot the server though RAM detect with new configuration (96GB).

Checked log we seen that the server has boot into the redhat kernel but cannot complete and stop with error OS_MCA_Not_Registered and then reboot continuously. The detail log:

An MCA panic typically means a hardware problem.  Since you just added hardware, start there.

If you remove the memory that you added, will the server boot ok?

It could even just be a bad seating of a DIMM.

Re: Cannot boot Server rx7640 after upgrading memory with OS_MCA_NOT_REGISTERED error

Dear Bob, Thank for your reply. You guested correct, after we remove those new RAM, the system bootet normally. We have try upgrading a pair but the issue still cannot be resolved, the same error? You mean that the DIMM seat was errored?

Hi ThangTT,

I could not see Cell 0 information in MCA , could you please upload MP logs(SEL/System logs/System Event logs) for more details of the issue.
