sx1000 Chipset for HP Servers
The second generation of cell-based servers is built around the HP sx1000 chipset. The sx1000
chipset supports both single-core and dual-core processors, including both HP PA-RISC and
Intel® Itanium® 2 processors.
The following servers use the HP sx1000 chipset:
â ¢ PA-RISC servers â HP rp7420, HP rp8420, HP 9000 Superdome (SD16A, SD32A, and SD64A
models).
â ¢ Itanium® 2-based servers â HP rx7620, HP rx7620-16, HP rx8620, HP rx8620-32, HP Integrity
Superdome (SD16A, SD32A, SD64A models).

The following servers use the HP sx2000
â ¢ PA-RISC servers â HP rp7440, HP rp8440, HP 9000 Superdome (SD16B, SD32B, SD64B
models).
â ¢ Itanium® 2-based servers â HP rx7640, HP rx8640, HP Integrity Superdome (SD16B, SD32B,
SD64B models)

Re: Chipset sx1000 or sx2000

Short version:

SD64B is sx2000 based.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Chipset sx1000 or sx2000

Hi

There is IA64 / Integrity architecture, and then there is the old PA-Risc, superdome sx1000, sx2000 architecture.

They are unrelated.

The following servers use the HP sx1000 chipset:

PA-RISC servers â  HP rp7420, HP rp8420, HP 9000 Superdome (SD16A, SD32A, and SD64A models).

Itaniumà ® 2-based servers â  HP rx7620, HP rx7620-16, HP rx8620, HP rx8620-32, HP Integrity Superdome (SD16A, SD32A, SD64A models).

The following servers use the HP sx2000 chipset: HP rx7640, HP rx8640, HP Integrity Superdome (SD16B, SD32B, SD64B models).

Not really. sx2000 based cells are always identical, no matter if a PA-RISC or Itanium II CPU is installed. You can even mix such cells in a superdome.

If you see the "B" in "SD64B" you know it is sx2000 based.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
