Configure slave MP remotely

Hi everyone,

A quicky question if someone can spare a few minutes?

Sorry for my ignorance, but is it possible to remotely configure a slave MP from an already configured master?
If so does any one know how to do it?

And am I also correct in thinking that, MP failover has now been disabled due to stability issues?

I've only learn't this morning that a server can have two MP's!

Using an rx7640, running hpux 11.23.

Many Thanks

Phil

Re: Configure slave MP remotely

I could not find any documentation about this, so this is based on my memory, which is not perfect...

I seem to recall that the slave MP was supposed to automatically copy the settings from the master MP. I don't remember the details, but basic idea was that no special actions were needed.

I think you're correct about the MP failover being disabled. That effectively makes the slave MP just a fancy Core-IO card for the second hardware partition (nPar).

Re: Configure slave MP remotely

IIRC, there is a difference between the rx7620 and rx7640 server.

See
http://docs.hp.com/en/AB312-9010A/ch03s08.html#v1622432

"...A second MP/SCSI board is required for a dual-partition configuration, or if you want to enable primary or secondary MP failover for the server."

http://docs.hp.com/en/AB312-9012A/ch01.html

"One manageability processor per core I/O card with failover capability when two or more core I/O cards are installed and properly configured"

If the failover is really supported now and enabled, the secondary will use the same settings as the primary once the secondary become active (switched).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Configure slave MP remotely

Hmmm is there anyway to get the diagnostics without rebooting the MP?

Is there really this little documentation about configuring the slave MP?
the most I've found is a brief mention that it is possible to have one, but thats it.

Thanks for your ongoing help though guys, much appricated. the ITRC forums are one of the main reasons to continue to buy HP.

Again, Please run this command from the MP, capture the output and post:

MP:CM> xd

No need to reboot anything so far - just post the menu.

Hope this helps!

Re: Configure slave MP remotely

This is your current status:

11. Toggle primary/secondary Failover Enable.

Current: Enabled

Failover is currently enabled. In case the primary fails, the second will start using the same values as the primary.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
