DVD ROM settings on RX3600

Hi Guys,

Need help on this prob that we're having, a new RX3600 just came in but it can't recognise it. On the boot up menu, when I choose "Internal Boot DVD" it just gives me a "NOT Found" message.

Also, this came in with a pre-installed OS, we can't see it in the ioscan output also.

But the DVD Rom drive itself was tested on a diff server and it worked OK.

Any advise please.

What do you see with
Shell> map -r
Shell> info io

If the DVD drive doesn't show there, then I would check if the drive is physically connected internally to a USB port. The drive is basically a IDE drive which connects to a USB bus through a bridge.

Hi, I just found out that 11.31 has changed the DVD/CDROM name in ioscan which is:

0/0/2/1.0.16 UsbScsiAdaptor CLAIMED DEVICE OO Device Driver
/dev/deviceFileSystem/Usb/MassStorage/dsk/disk@hp-1008+294=A60020000001
/dev/deviceFileSystem/Usb/MassStorage/rdsk/disk@hp-1008+294=A60020000001

I can mount this now, but the next problem is I cannot do an OS reinstallation because "Internal Bootable DVD" gives me a NOT FOUND error.

Is it bec I am using an 11.11 media instead of the 11.31 which was used previously?

The DVD drive should be seen in EFI with a blk entry. It maynot show the fs(x) entry if the media is in-compatible with the EFI.

You can't use HPUX 11.11 with rx3600. You need either 11.23/11.31 Integrity Core OS Media.

Thanks! understood, now all I need is to get the proper CD and the Smart Setup CD to do the reinstallation, correct?

If you want to install HPUX, you need HP UX 11i version 2 September 2006 minimum and HP UX 11i version 3. Other supported OS are
Linux RHEL 4 U4 and SLES 10; OpenVMS V8.3 or higher for Integrity servers; and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise and Datacenter Edition. Smart Setup CD is required for Windows OS installation.

Thanks Sameer, you mean, I do not need the Smart Setup CD if I am to install HP-UX 11i v3?

No. Smart Setup CD is meant for Windows OS installation.

Thanks for clarifying Sameer, right now I am doing a test SLES10 install on the server, but I still get the "Not Found" error when choosing the "Internal Bootable DVD" option from the EFI menu.

Am I still missing something?

Select the EFI Shell option in the boot menu and run these commands. Let's see what it shows.

Shell> map -r
Shell> info io
Shell> bcfg boot dump -v
