Difference between RX and BL servers
Dear All, Question 1) Where can I find documentation that would outline the difference between the RX 3600 and the bl870c
Question 2.) Which OS [ Linux or HP UX ) is considered reliable for integrity servers to run Oracle 10g Database [ for the Oracle ERP 11.5.10.2 ] environment.
Thanks

Re: Difference between RX and BL servers
hello faizer,
first of all the rx3600 is a processor board based system and is an entry server running on Itanium processors you can read all about it here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/hw.html#HP%20Integrity%20rx3600%20Server
Second, the BL870c is an integrity BLADE system, which is a server installed in an enclosure ( C3000 or C7000 ) and the enclosure can carry up to 7 integrity or proliant full height blades or 14 mid height blades.
and for more information follow these 2 links:
http://docs.hp.com/en/hw.html#HP%20BladeSystem%20c7000%20Carrier-Grade%20Enclosure
http://docs.hp.com/en/hw.html#HP%20Integrity%20BL870c%20Server%20Blade
for which OS is better to run Oracle, this depends a lot on what Oracle recommends, i think they'll go for linux any time of the day but you have to put in consideration the size of your firm and what type of system. So you better advice oracle about that.

Re: Difference between RX and BL servers
Thanks for this but what I am looing for is the arhitecrtural difference within the system for the 3600/6600 with the Blade 870c.eg: the memory bus, the io bus etc.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Difference between RX and BL servers
architecturally they are no difference... it's a mainboard that carries the processor and memory in blades though the io cards are pci based called mezzanine cards and you can read more about them in the manuals, while the rx3600/rx6600 have normal pci/pci-x cards.
what really differs is that the rx3600 is a full operating server while the BL needs an enclosure and interconnects based on what u are going to connect it to... and if u are buying a blade most probably u want to have as many servers in the smallest amount of space and easier manageability.
