Re: EFI BOOT MANAGER?in rx servers?

>> i m not interupting the efi boot manager what it "ll happen?

It will start the normal boot process.

>> if i m interupting the boot manager what it "ll happen?

It will go to EFI menu.

>> what about autoboot?

Autoboot is automatic boot of HP-UX. If you don't interrupt anything, it will boot automatic.

>> what about manual boot?

For manual boot, you need to disable the autoboot option. Then it will go to ISL. From there, boot manually.

>> how to boot from alternet boot path?

You can set this at OS, using setboot -a command.

See HP Manual "Managing Systems and Workgroups". Search this doc for "Booting from an Alternate Boot Source"

EFI is an interface between your OS and firmware. EFI contains partitions, which contains boot loader programs, device driver files ( used by the firmware at boot time )and some utility programs.

Google it, you will get more details.

I am sorry, no screen shots I have. If you have a test machine with EFI capability, you can check yourself. Otherwise search for the docs.

Re: EFI BOOT MANAGER?in rx servers?

EFI (extensible firmware interface) is a shell (like good old DOS) for interacting with the server during boot.

If "autoboot" is set to ON, the server will boot from the configured disk. If "autoboot" is OFF, the server will just stop at the boot menu.

For a manual boot, start the EFI shell, go to the appropriate disk (e.g. fs0:), change the directory to the boot loader and run the OS loader:

fs0:\> cd efi

fs0:\EFI> ls
Directory of: fs0:\EFI

04/17/08 07:24p 4,096 .
04/17/08 07:24p 0 ..
04/17/08 07:24p 4,096 HPUX

04/17/08 07:24p 4,096 diag
04/17/08 07:24p 4,096 hp
04/17/08 07:24p 4,096 tools
0 File(s) 0 bytes
7 Dir(s)

fs0:\EFI> cd hpux

fs0:\EFI\HPUX> ls
Directory of: fs0:\EFI\HPUX

04/17/08 07:24p 4,096 .

fs0:\EFI\HPUX> hpux.efi

Re: EFI BOOT MANAGER?in rx servers?

Hi,

You can configure the alternate boot path by going into boot option maintenance menu and adding a boot option. You will have to configure it with setboot -a first. Depending on the autoboot and autosearch flags present your system will boot from primary path or prompt you for a boot path if you want to manually boot the system. After you have added the boot option for alternate path , the next time you get the blue screen (EFI boot manager), just select the alternate boot path on the EFI menu. EFI shell was developed and is a part of the EFI menu for additional flexibility. Remember the EFI s/m partition and HPSP partitions are NOT JFS or HFS. The fs option you see there stands for File system.
