Re: EFI Boot Manager--updating nvram

EFI Boot Manager--updating nvram

We have 2 rx7640, and need to update the primary boot path within the EFI Boot Manager. Basically, we add the new primary boot path, move it up so it runs first, and save it to NVRAM. However, when we reset the box, those changes are gone. It appears that nothing is being saved to nvram. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Brad

Re: EFI Boot Manager--updating nvram

Are there two MP's in each system? If so, it may be necessary to sync the two before resetting the box. Otherwise, depending on which one you set, when they sync at reset it might not be with your changes present.

This is from a vague recollection that there may be such an issue with the cell-based systems with multiple MP's. I suspect that the manuals at docs.hp.com could confirm/refute my DIMM memory :)

Rick,

Yes, we do have two MPs. I'll look into it and see if it pans out. I'll then update the forum and apply more points!

I appreciate your input.

Re: EFI Boot Manager--updating nvram

No luck. I could not find any reference to syncing the 2 MPs. I did find that when two MPs are installed, and there's only one nPar, that one is considered primary and the other acts as failover if needed. The primary MP is in use, which is in slot 1.

All help is welcome. Thanks!

Re: EFI Boot Manager--updating nvram

You can't initiate a MP sync manually.
What does the "setboot" command say about the boot pathes?

Hope this helps!

Re: EFI Boot Manager--updating nvram

Found the problem. Basically, when you reset the box, the EFI defaults back to nPar settings. You have boot in nPar mode, and update the EFI. See attached note for details if anyone is interested.

Thanks for everyone's help.
