EFI drive maps vanished

HP Integrity rx7640 server

The server originally only had one root drive in the top left slot. A second root drive was procured and inserted into the top right slot for mirroring purposes. The drive was not recognized, so the support guy on site decided to reboot the server, and then reported to me that it would not boot at all.

Logging into the MP, none of the disk boot options are functional, so I went into the Boot options menu to add the path to the root drive manually, but none of the internal SCSI disks were showing in the options list, only the PCI NICs.

So, out the EFI shell, I see that there are NO maps in the device mapping table. Performing a SEARCH ALL only finds the NICs, no SCSI disks controllers.

Unfortunately, I do not have physical access to the server, so I could only power-cycle the cabinet form the MP. I did so, but same result. No disks in the device mapping.

How do I restore the mappings to the disks if the EFI shell can't even find them in a search? Potential hardware issue?

Not really sure about the situation.
The first steps I would take would be

> reconnect -r
> map -r
> devices
> devtree

Hi Mike,

I don't think that you have a hardware problem with your disks. The slots 1A and 1B are completely independent and a disk problem on slot 1B would not make the disk on 1A invisible (different SCSI controllers).

The disk slots 1A and 1B are connected to cell 1 and only visible if
1.) cell 1 is in the partition
2.) the I/O chassis 1, conected to cell 1 is turned on.

If you have two partitions, check if you are on the correct partition.
The EFI command "info io" should show you additional information which I/O slots are visible from EFI.

Other useful commands on the Management Processor would be.
in Main Menu:
-vfp (shows status of cell 0 and 1)

in CM> menu:
-cp (partition assignment)
-ps (on cell 1 and I/O chassis 1)

the cell & I/O chassis can be turned on with "pe" .

Ok, we're getting closer. CP shows that only Cell 0 is a member of Partition 0. Not sure how Cell 1 got evicted from the fun, but whatever the reason now I need to put it back in. All I/O cabinets and Cells are powered on, so now it's just a question of putting Cell 1 into Partition 0. Time to RTFM!

Still working on this one. Can't seem to find documentation on how to put Cell 1 back into the partition from the EFI shell / CM. Plenty of docs on how to do it from the OS side, but I can't do that since I can't boot to being with.

Ok, got it going!

I reconfigreset (rr) the server to put it in BIB mode. I then created a new Genesis partition, but this time I modified it to have cell board "1" as the root. Cell board 1 had the I/O assigned that had my SCSI controllers and my disks attached. After that, it was just a matter of booting into the OS, and rejoining Cell 0 into my partition to get my extra CPUs and RAM back.
