EFI

Hello,

Can you please advise, how to reinstall EFI? Server when booting doesn't even goes into EFI. I have found FW command on MP, but is there possible to download EFI installation file somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

Re: EFI

EFI is a part of the firmware of an Itanium system. The latest firmware may be downloadable from HP support webpages:
http://www.hp.com/go/support

If this is a large enterprise server with hardware partititioning features, firmware upgrade as a customer action may not be supported. If that is the case, open a hardware support call with HP and let them sort it out.
(If you have a support agreement, now is the time to use it!)

If an Itanium server does not reach EFI, it cannot boot from any media, so installing anything will be difficult. Hardware-level repairs may be necessary to fix this.

Re: EFI

There is no need to **reinstall** EFI, because it cannot get lost - it's part of the firmware stored in NVRAM.

Where does your server stop? What is the SEL is telling you? What server do you have?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: EFI

As Matti suggests, hardware-level repair options might be required. Before you get to that though, you might look at the docs for the rx4640 which may still be at docs.hp.com. What I'm wondering if possible would be to go-in and boot from the alternate system firmware to allow you to get far enough to perform another firmware update. Of course if the nvram in which the bits are stored is hardfailed, even that won't provide much joy.

Re: EFI

"...boot from the alternate system firmware..."

Not with this server model. There is none.

More MP logs may probably tell more about this problem.

I suggest to contact HP support.

Hope this helps!
