Extenal USB DVD drive connection in HP rx2600 for OS installation

Hi,
I need to install a OS in HP rx2600 system. For installation, connection of external USB DVD drive is essential.
Pl. let me know how to boot the OS from external USB drive.

Re: Extenal USB DVD drive connection in HP rx2600 for OS installation

Hi there,
Not sure if its supported on the rx2600, but I have utilized USB storage on the rx2660 (a newer model). A USB attached drive should be seen as any other:

- Install the drive.
- Either reset or run 'reconnect -r' from EFI shell.
- Run map -r to show a listing of devices. The drive should report as a block device.
- Start the install and select this device to install to.

Hope this helps.

Try and you will see.

Connect the drive, start the server, go to EFI.

You should see an "fsx" entry with "USB" in the path.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Ignoring "bootstrap" issues, which may be avoided via HP_UX patches, perhaps - it would probably be best to be on the latest firmware for the rx2600 before trying to use an external USB DVD. I don't know there are problems, but I also tend to be a paranoid :)

If you have "other" HP-UX systems on the same network, you might consider setting one of them up as an Ignite server and doing the OS install that way.
