GSP on rx4640 and rx2620

Hi All,

I am newbie on integrety series. Does a integrity server has GSP as like as HP9000 series? We have 3 rp5470 they have GSPs. I assigned ip address on their LAN card, and I can manage the servers without any terminal. Do Integrety servers have something like that or something like ILO on proliant series?

Re: GSP on rx4640 and rx2620

Hi Alireza,

the GSP (called MP or iLO) of the integrety servers have the same basic functionality like these in your rp5470. But a different/enhanced set of commends and handling. You can manage them the same way like your rp's.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Hi Alireza,
I don't know what does mena GSP and ILO.
I hope you want some of these features:

- Accesing console remotely (avaiable)
- Configuration of console, power mgmt, etc. (avaiable)

Re: GSP on rx4640 and rx2620

Thank you All,

Does it support virtual devices. I mean if a server does not has a dvd rom, would it be possible to use your local dvd rom and use it to install os on that server.(as like as ILO). Does it need purchase a seprate license to use it as like as ILO or it is free of charge by defualt in Integrity servers?

Re: GSP on rx4640 and rx2620

You can't have "virtual devices" - it's not the proliants ilo. (Nice to have). But you can have all functionality for free, except SSH - you will need a licence for that, I guess.
Again, it has the same basic funtionality like our GSP, but uses different commands, more features and another menu structure.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: GSP on rx4640 and rx2620

Yes it has and you are right. It's called MP (management processor) which is very much similar to the guardian service processor of the pa-riscs servers.

I've just configured the the MP for both telnet and web console access although the I can't manage the make the web-console to work yet. The ssh complains of needing a license when I tried to enable it.

Re: GSP on rx4640 and rx2620

Hi Alireza,
after I read Torsen post I get a most precise idea about what you want.
ILO (Integrated Light Out) use indipendent MP (Management Processor) to perform administration and monitoring of server.
The answer is YES. On rx series there is MP (same acronym); you can remotely manager power (on, off), mirror console, monitor server. MP is active even when server is off. Even syntax is same on rx (SE for os SEssion, CSP, FRU, etc).
However in HP documentation iLo Manageability Card is optional component (I don't know what is that card).
I don't see, on rx series, some other features like LDAP, HPSIM and SSH. Perhaps SSH may be avaiable, I'm not sure about this.

Re: GSP on rx4640 and rx2620

Thank you guys,

So, if MP on integrity series don't support installing OS remotely, Why does HP sell these servers without DVD ROM by defaul and you should purchase DVD seprately? I think a server with default configuration should work.

Re: GSP on rx4640 and rx2620

Alireza,
why HP sells w/o DVD?
I don't know, commercial strategies sometimes are uncomprehensive.
DVD is always the 1st device for boot. Just for your information, EFI (Enhanced Firmware) creates always fs0: device from DVD/CD, if present on system; fs0: is default boot device.
I'm not sure you cannot boot from network because I don't use this feature.
