HDD addon issue

I have a server Model rx2660 with the following configuration:

rx2660 HP-UX 1 Core (1.6 GHz) [Backup Svr]
1 AB036B HP rx36xx/66xx Internal SAS Contrl Card
1 AB036B 106 HP Core IO SAS Controller RAID1
1 AD274A HP 2GB DDR2 (2x1GB) Memory
1 AD274A 0D1 Factory integrated
1 AD275A HP 4GB DDR2 (2x2GB) Memory
1 AD275A 0D1 Factory integrated
4 AD333A HP Integrity 146GB 10k SAS Drive
4 AD333A 0D1 Factory integrated

I like to add 4x146 GB of SAS Drive with the existing 2X146. In this existing setup, does SAS controller allow me to add on normally? What will be the best possible way to add the disks? It also mentioned here, that I also add 4 GB of Memory.

Re: HDD addon issue

Just insert them and run "ioscan -fn" and "insf -eCdisk" after this:

Hope this helps!

Re: HDD addon issue

Its ok for the H/W add on. But I like to know about the existing RAID issue. As in the server currently there is RAID 1 configured. What will happen with the existing configured RAID? Will it auto add the newly added Disks to the current RAID configuration, or I have to rebuild the RAID again?

Moreover, as the system is currently is on live, we can't reconfigure RAID as it will remove all the info from the Disks.

Re: HDD addon issue

I assume you see your existing RAID as "IR volume" in ioscan, right?

This RAID is bound to the disks and slots, nothing will happen if you insert new disks.

This controller is able to manage 2 sets of a mirrored pair + hot spare, but you need to configure all this.

If you don't, you see the disks as "normal" disks without any raid config.

Hope this helps!

Re: HDD addon issue

Hi there,

May i wanna know, how the SAS controller detect the new mirror with the existing mirror if I make a new mirror of the new 4X146 GB Disks? Do I need to configure the RAID manager manually or it will automatically detect? If I need to do the configuration by interrupting while booting, then plz provide the full procedure.

Re: HDD addon issue

You may use the new disks directly just like "plain" disks with LVM or configure a new raid (only 2 disks = 1 pair), see

http://docs.hp.com/en/J6369-90071/index.html

Hope this helps!
