HP A2997A Powertrust UPS Service Manual

I am looking for the service manual for this particular UPS. I believe the batteries died and I want to replace them. I also want to open the unit in order to remove dust that has accumulated inside it.

This is what the manual will tell you about opening the unit:

"Serious injury can occur if the unit enclosure is opened by unqualified
personnel. There is a risk of electric shock and/or burn. Hazardous live
parts inside the unit are energized from the battery supply even when
the input power is disconnected. Do not remove the cover; there are no
user-serviceable parts inside. Refer repair to qualified service personnel."

This is taken from the manual - 12 years old.
So guess about the battery replacement - or try to open a service call. This might be possible, but you don't want to pay it ;-)

I noticed that people were selling replacement battery packs for this unit on the Internet. I assumed the service manual would have instructions on how to install them. This is the first time I have seen a UPS connected to a server via serial cable. I was worried that a different brand/model would not work. I know now that this is not the case. Thank you Torsten for the information.

Take the thing over to a BatteriesPlus franchise for a battery replacement, or browse around the discussion boards at www.fieldlines.com (where a lot of people there various things to UPS units, and might be able to help).

You can find and order the replacement on http://partsurfer.hp.com but it is not cheap and the device is quite old.
