HP RX7620 Itanium RP7420 PA-RISC A6913A cell board firmware

I have many PA-RISC cell boards A6913A for he RP7420. I need a few A6913A cell board to go into the RX7620 Itanium server. The only difference is the firmware. Can anyone point me to where I can upgrade or change the firmware on my PA-RISC A6913A cell boards?

Hi Jesse,

You cannot install an rp7420 cell board into an rx7620 server. The processors along with the firmware are different. If you plan on installing PA-RISC cell boards into an rx7620 server it will not work. The processors will be incompatible to the model number therefore will not power on.

Mixing PA-RISC and IPF cell boards in the same cabinet is not supported.

If you want this to work you will need to replace all the processors from PA-RISC to IPF on your cell boards and of course modify the firmware.

Thanks Marc, I'm aware that the CPU's are different. The A6913A cell board are the same in both Rx7620 & rp7420. I wanted to get the procedure on how I can upgrade the firmware on my PA-RISC board to make them support the Itanium CPU's in the rx7620.

There is a way to upgrade the firmware, I just dont know how and I'm looking for the answer here.

Yes, the cell boards are the same for both the servers. rx7620 is derived from rp7420.

Yes the cell boards are the same, but you still will not be able to install IPF firmware to a cell loaded with PA-RISC processors.

The update utility will check the type of installed processors and the firmware for compatibility.

You just need to get the upgrade kit, the compatible Itanium processors and IA64 firmware.

I understand you won't be doing rp7420 to rx7620 in box upgrade. So upgrade kit is not relevant but I hope you got the idea.
