I have an rx7640 Itainium Server running HP-UX 11.31 with one cell board and one partition. We are adding a second cell baord/memory/cpu and want to create a second partition. I currently have one MP/SCSI core I/O card and a combination LAN/SCSI card. Do I need a second MP/SCSI core I/O card and a second combination LAN/SCSI card to create the second partition?

Solution
Yes. Check out the quickspecs and scroll down to the "Integrated Multifunction Core I/O" section.

Re: How many MP/SCSI core I/O cards needed
Hi Jim,
For this family of servers (sx2000) you do not require another MP/SCSI card and combo LAN/SCSI controller in order to create another partition with your new cell board.
Without the Core I/O SCSI and LAN/SCSI cards you will not have access to the internal storage bays and LAN and to the MP failover features.
For any I/O (storage, LAN) you will of course need to install IO cards in IO Domain 0.
Hope this helps
Marc

Re: How many MP/SCSI core I/O cards needed
Thanks to TTr and Marc Morin my question has been answered. I do need the second MP.
